OBITUARY: Hiteshew - Homer E., 71, Windber, died Feb. 25, 2003, at home. Born April 26, 1931, in Windber, son of late Lester and Lottie (Horner) Hiteshew. Also preceded in death by brothers, Roy, Paul and Clarence; and sisters, Mary Livingston and Ruth Williams. Survived by wife of 49 years, former Luana Knavel; children, P. Scott, married to former D. Renee Rivenbark, Tulsa, Okla.; Lauree, wife of Jimmy Lapinsky, Windber; and Brent, married to former Alicia Russell, Alum Bank; grandchildren, Jordan Hiteshew, Robert Russell, Blake Hiteshew, Cortney Lapinsky, Jesse Hiteshew, Sarasue Hiteshew and Kyle Hiteshew; sister-in-law, Audrey Ruffner and neice, Karen Ruffner, both of Windber; and numerous other neices and nephews. Mr. Hiteshew was a graduate of Windber Area High School and University of Pittsburgh where he studied engineering. Arymy veteran of Korean War. Former owner/operator of Homer E. Hiteshew & Sons Inc. and Hiteshew Planing Mill, Windber. Former builder and developer and was a lifelong member and past president of HBAA. He was an accomplished violinist and former member of Johnstown Symphony Orchestra. He was an avid logger and outdoorsman. He also loved to spend time on the "mountain" and traveled extensively worldwide. He was a 100-unit blood donor for the American Red Cross. Member of Rummel church of the Brethren and former youth advisor and deacon at the church. Family will recieve friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Meek Funeral Home Inc., Windber, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, the Rev. Ken Gresh and the Rev. William Lavelle officiating. Interment, Berkey Cemetery. Homer's family suggests in light of his love of the outdoors, you plant a tree somewhere in memory of him. |

OBITUARY: Obituaries 10/11/2009 HITESHEW Luana M., 77, Windber, died Oct. 9, 2009, at home. Born May 22, 1932, in Windber, daughter of late Maurice and Vergie (Statler) Knavel. Preceded in death by loving husband of 49 years, Homer E. Hitshew, and nephew, Richard Ruffner. Survived by adoring children, P. Scott, married to former D. Renee Rivenbark, Tulsa, Okla.; Lauree, wife of Jim Lapinsky, Windber; and Brent, married to former Alicia Russell, Alum Bank. Beloved Nana to grandchildren, Jordan Hiteshew, Robert Russell, Blake Hiteshew, Cortney Lapinsky, Jesse Hiteshew, Sarasue Hiteshew and Kyle Hiteshew. Also survived by sister, Audrey Ruffner; niece, Karen Ruffner; and nephew, Mark Ruffner, all of Windber. Graduate of Windber Area High School and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Retired teacher in the Greater Johns- town and Windber Area school districts. Owner of Chalet Shoppes & Studio. She also played flute in Johnstown Symphony Orchestra. Member of Rummel Church of the Brethren. Organist and choir director at Grove Avenue United Methodist Church. An accomplished concert pianist who freely gave of her time and extraordinary talents to various organizations, individuals and charities too numerous to mention. Luana’s kind heart, gentle smile and spiritual inspiration will be forever celebrated and etched in the hearts of all who have . been touched by her.
